Summertime Beethoven

Are you classically-curious? This concert is for you.

It’s short, the music is beautiful, and the cathedral is stunning.

A New Fort Greene Orchestra Concert Celebrating the Beginning of Summer! Featuring Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, and works by Mozart and Bartok.

Light Design by Cristopher Gilmore

Summer is nearly here—and whether that means hiking or hitting the beach—no piece captures the feeling of freedom quite like Beethoven's "Pastoral" Symphony. The inscription before the first movement, "Awakening of cheerful feelings on arrival in the countryside," paints a vivid palette of emotions embedded in this piece. Rivers, rustic dances, bird calls, storms, and even the quiet after the rain—all are woven into this masterpiece.

We’ve paired this symphonic journey with two other joyful compositions: Mozart’s Figaro Overture and Bartok’s Romanian Dances for violin solo and orchestra, showcasing our concertmaster Doori Na’s dazzling virtuosity.

Following the success of our Titan Symphony production, our lighting designer, Christopher Gilmore, returns to enhance the evening with a new, musically scored light design.
